Welcome to Paradise
The Island of Maio known as “The little Caribbean” with its long beaches of blond sand on turquoise water, caressed by the sun and rocked by the trade winds from October to April which give it this ideal temperature throughout the year.

Vila do Maio or Porto Inglês is the same main village with its market, its 19th century church and the São José fort built to protect the salt that was once the wealth of the island.
Vila is the center of activity where you will find shops, restaurants, banks and many activities such as the annual festival which begins in August with beach games and ends on September 8 with two nights of concert on the beach.
In addition to the 36 beaches that border the island, Maio is a welcoming population and expressive faces to share here and there a slice of life in the “hortas” gardens in Portuguese, breeding or artisanal exploitation of salt.
When the boats arrive, we can witness the brooms of women carrying fish of all sizes on their heads or basins filled with multicolored fish, a real treat for the eyes and stomachs.

Maio is astonishing very different landscapes.
To the East (stone quarries), to the West (sandy beaches, dunes) to the North (the salt flats and the lunar expanses) and to the South (the farms, the “Breton” coast).
An effect doubled by the seasons. From November to June, the dry period with earthy and ocher colors, while from July to October we have sparkling yellow-green.
Maio is rich in curiosity. You may see dolphins along the coast, whales from February to April, and turtle spawning or births from July to November.
Raise your eyes to the sky to observe falcon, kingfisher adorned with extraordinary iridescent blue, white egret or other birds.
Or take advantage of the passing time, no stress.
